We are lucky to live in a world where it is easy to identify what the latest interior design trend is. Simply popping into a high-street shop, flipping through a magazine or endlessly scrolling through Pinterest will instantly give you a feel for the colours, patterns or prints of the season. But with all this information at our fingertips, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and confused as to what we really like or what we think we like because we see it so often.
Identifying and defining your unique style is not in any way limiting you to a specific set of colours or style of furniture. It is simply a base to give you the confidence to develop and expand whilst knowing that your choices are all aligned to create a home that makes you feel your most comfortable.
It can take a while to fully define your style, and even longer if you are sharing your space and need to create a combined style. But here are some questions you can ask yourself to get you started:
#1 - What does your Pinterest board tell you?
As you scroll through your saved images on Pinterest, you might be able to identify a common theme that means you always pin similar images. What is it in these pictures that you like? Is it the colour palette, the use of pattern or maybe the style of furniture?
#2 - Where is your happy place?
If you think about your happy place, what style springs to mind? Is it your childhood home, with ditsy floral wallpaper and matching pleated curtains? Is it the beach and a nearby beach hut or surf shack? Or maybe it's your favourite restaurant? Whatever it is, think about how can you incorporate elements of your happy place into your personal style.
